Pakistan Psychiatric Society | Updates 2025 – 2026

Dear and honorable colleagues,

The following are the objectives and goals we have achieved in the period of January 2025 – January 2026 under the current cabinet.

Key Achievements

01 Constitutional amendments implemented based on the PPS Constitution committee recommendations.
02 Major Milestone: Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences included as compulsory MBBS subjects by PMDC.
03 Renewal of PPS registration under NGO rules with Baluchistan authorities.
04 Successfully defended/deferred the Pakistan Psychology Bill four times.
05 Account modernization: Successfully updated signatories to the new GS and Finance Secretary.
06 Finalized 14 PPS Councils to work independently and report to the Cabinet.
07 Launched fortnightly teaching Zoom meetings for TMOs.
08 JPPS Journal now PMDC and HEC recognized with dedicated publication funds.
09 Successful organization of the National Conference in Karachi.
10 Workshops and symposia for GPs conducted across all four provinces.
11 Established MOU with American Pakistani psychiatrists (PAPANA).
12 WPA membership renewal and MOU for future thematic conferences.
13 International presence at BPPA meetings (UK) and local chapters.
14 SAARC Psychiatry conference hosting rights secured for Pakistan next year.
15 AFPA Advisorship bestowed upon the Pakistan Psychiatric Association.
16 Medical camps established in Bajaur for IDPs by young psychiatry colleagues.
17 Organized three camps in Buner with free medicines worth millions.
18 Psychotropic medicine donations for flood victims in Buner and Punjab.
19 Advocacy for Mental Hospitals in KPK: High-level meetings for patient rights and psychiatrist staffing.
20 Nationwide training workshops conducted specifically for Family Physicians.
21 Country-wide awareness seminars focusing on Suicide Prevention.
22 Psychological First Aid (PFA) workshops conducted at Buner Peer Baba.
23 6-month Mental Health Rehabilitation program for PTSD patients in Buner.
24 Punjab Services: Psychiatry included in NCDs; first ED of PIMH appointed from Psychiatry faculty.
25 Successful local and international celebrations of World Mental Health Day.
26 First Child Psychon held at KEMU Lahore; strong national representation.
27 Fountain House Lahore session with international delegates and patient donations.
28 Historical Landmark: First CPSP Examination of second Fellowship in Child Psychiatry.

Shortcomings & Future Focus

  • Pending audit report of the last Psychiatry conference at Islamabad.
  • Commencement of work on the PPS headquarters in Islamabad.
  • Logistical delays in shifting JPPS to Quetta due to unpredictable issues.

Condolence Message

On the Passing of Prof. Sayed Muhammad Sultan

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Prof. Sayed Muhammad Sultan. Today we lost another great personality who dedicated his life to the service of mental health and education.

Prof. Sayed Muhammad Sultan served as:

Past President SAARC Psychiatric Federation
Former Dean Faculty of Psychiatry CPSP

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. May Allah grant them strength and patience during this difficult time.

May Allah bless the departed soul and grant them Jannah. Ameen.

Prof. Sultan's legacy will live on through his students, colleagues, and all those who were touched by his work and kindness. We remember his contributions and celebrate his life.
