About Society

Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) was founded in 1972 and registered in Karachi, Pakistan under Societies Registration Act, 1860. Pakistan Psychiatric Society is working with the mission of providing highest level of compassionate, specialized and effective care to psychiatric patients without discrimination, and also promulgation of mental health education at all levels.

Vision for Psychiatry in Pakistan:

As the President of PPS, my vision is to elevate psychiatry to a prominent position in Pakistan’s healthcare system. We aim to enhance mental health services, promote awareness, and reduce stigma around mental illnesses.

  • Key Objectives

  • Improve Mental Health Services: Strengthen psychiatric training centers and promote community-based mental health care.

  • Awareness and Advocacy: Launch national media campaigns to educate the public about mental health and reduce stigma.

  • Research and Development: Encourage research in psychiatry and collaborate internationally to advance mental health care.

  • Policy Advocacy: Advocate for a separate allocation of funds for mental health in the national budget and inclusion of mental health treatment in the “Sehat Sahulat Program”.
