About Pakistan Psychiatric Society

Founded in 1972 and registered in Karachi, Pakistan, under the Societies' Registration Act, 1860, the Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) works with the core mission of providing the highest level of compassionate, specialised, and effective care to psychiatric patients without discrimination, along with promoting mental health education at all levels.

The society aims to facilitate research activities and provide a strong base for multidisciplinary training based on the Biopsychosocial Model. As a member society of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), PPS has evolved into an independent, premier scientific and professional psychiatric organization, representing psychiatrists across Pakistan while connecting distinguished members globally.

President Office Updates (Jan 2025 – Jan 2026)

01 Constitutional amendments implemented successfully on the recommendations of the PPS Constitution committee.
02 Major Landmark: Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences included as compulsory subjects in the MBBS curriculum by PMDC.
03 Renewal of PPS registration under NGO rules with the Baluchistan authorities.
04 Pakistan Psychology Bill successfully defended and deferred four times.
05 Account modernization: Successfully changed account signatories after 8 years.
06 Finalized 14 independent PPS Councils reporting directly to the President and Cabinet.
07 Teaching Zoom meetings launched for TMOs on a fortnightly basis.
08 JPPS journal secured PMDC and HEC recognition with allocated publication funds.
09 Successfully organized the National Conference last year in Karachi.
10 Workshops and symposia conducted for general practitioners across all four provinces.
11 APA meetings and strategic MoU signed with American Pakistani Psychiatrists (PAPANA).
12 WPA meetings, membership renewals, and established MoU for thematic conferences.
13 BPPA meetings attended across Birmingham, London, and Pakistan.

16 Medical camps established in Bajaur for IDPs by young colleagues under PPS.
17 Three medical camps organized in Buner featuring free medicines worth millions from personal contributions.
18 Psychotropic medicine donations delivered for flood victims across Buner and Punjab.
19 High-level advocacy for KPK Mental Hospitals with Health Advisor and Secretary Health.
20 Nationwide training workshops conducted for family physicians.
21 Countrywide awareness symposia and seminars focused on Suicide Prevention.
22 Psychological First Aid (PFA) workshops conducted at Buner Peer Baba with KMU.
23 6-month Mental Health Rehabilitation program executed for PTSD patients in Buner.
24 Provincial Services: Psychiatry integrated into NCDs in Punjab; executive appointment at PIMH Lahore.
25 Local and international celebrations for World Mental Health Day (WMHD).
26 First Child Psychon held at KEMU Lahore with strong international representation.
27 Fountain House Lahore introductory session attended by global leaders with a ₹50,000 donation.
28 Historical Milestone: First CPSP Examination of the second Fellowship in Child Psychiatry.
