First Pakistan Psychiatric Society National Guidelines Meeting was held at Bhurbhan from 10-12 September 2021. There were lot of topics discussed related to Mental Health Disorders by Eminent Speakers nationwide.
In the Inaugural Ceremony of the meeting, President World Psychiatric Association Professor Dr Afzal Javed in a video message congratulated the society for developing the guidelines which would be really helpful in assessment and management of psychiatric disorders. Prof Dr Waqar Azeem, Prof Mujeeb shaad & Dr Shahid Lateef also conveyed their video messages.
The Meeting also Had Key Note lectures by Prof Khalid Mufti (Healing The Healers), Prof Fareed Aslam Minhas (Leadership In Mental Health), Prof Unaiza Niaz (Selection of trainees in Psychiatry) and Prof Moudat Rana (Psychiatry Beyond Guidelines)
Earlier in inaugural ceremony, information secretary Dr. Ali Ahsan Mufti introduced uplifting of website with new services and new theme which was followed by general secretary report by Dr Zainullah Khan and Presidential Speech By Prof Dr Imtiaz Ahmed Doger
Background of Guidelines
In Pakistan about 15 years ago, Anxiety management guidelines were developed by a board that was initiative of a pharmaceutical company. Similarly About 13 years ago guidelines for management of Major Depressive disorder was developed with the efforts of late Prof. Haroon Rashid Chaudry when was President of Pakistan Psychiatric Society
Why Guidelines Are Needed
Many countries and Mental Health Organizations/ Societies developed guidelines for mental health disorders, according to their own culture and perspective keeping in the light of recent advances. Therefore there was a dire need in Pakistan for such movement.
A consensus document was required as a PPS publication
After taking oath, the cabinet of (2021-2022) in their 1st meeting of executive committee in December 2020 approved the working of PPS National Guidelines. Topics were decided &
